René Descartes, French philosopher and mathematician, was the first to propose that the world could be understood in mathematical and scientific terms. He could be said to be *the* inventor of rationalism. His intuition, according to him, came to him in a dream, brought by an angel. Isaac Newton, the guy who brought you calculus (he invented it at the same time as but independently from Leibnitz) devoted 70% of this studies and time to alchemy and alchemical experiments.)

DANTE and the DIVINE COMEDY

THE EARTH according to DANTE

Same representation, upside down.

A more compact representation (for travelers?)

And now, in color. And in Italian.

L'INFERNO

This is by far the most famous and most iconic representation of Dante's journey to the OLTRETOMBA
(beyond the grave).  BY DOMENICO di MICHELINO

Look for a better reproduction online and identify as many details as possible.
This painting is a treasure map of ideas, symbols, references, hints and clues, something between "Where is Waldo"
and the "I SPY" books.

By universal consent, the greatest illustrations of the DIVINA COMMEDIA are those of
Gustave Dorč, around 1850

You can try to translate the categories of sinners, or you can look up  a similar representation in English.
